Today we remember Kastriot Sulçe, known to everyone as Koten, who passed away 14 years ago at the age of 53. His name and story continue to inspire new generations. He was one of the most distinguished athletes in the history of Albanian sports, starting his career in 1972 with the club 17 Nëntori, showing extraordinary talent in sprint competitions


National records and boundless passion


Kastriot Sulçe was an undisputed record holder in the 200 m (21.6 sec) and 400 m (48.2 sec), and in 1983 he broke two national records, cementing his name in the history of Albanian athletics. Beyond the records, what set him apart was his courage and unwavering passion


He ran to be free, a motto that was not only about speed on the track but also about his life. He faced hardships, limitations, and political persecution, showing that sport can be a way to express freedom, pride, and strength of character

Despite obstacles, Kastriot Sulçe never gave up. In 2021, Kastriot Sulçe was awarded the title “Master,” a well-deserved recognition for his achievements and extraordinary contribution to Albanian sport. Today, his name remains immortal on the pedestal of Albanian athletics, and his spirit continues to inspire young athletes across the country
