A woman in Japan has held a symbolic wedding ceremony with a partner created by artificial intelligence. The phenomenon is sparking debate over the ethical boundaries of relationships with AI and the profound social changes in Japan. Experts warn of the risks of emotional dependency, but also acknowledge potential positive psychological effects in certain cases.

In Japan, a symbolic wedding ceremony between a woman and an AI-created partner has ignited strong debate about the limits of human relationships in the digital age.

Yurina Noguchi, 32, organized a traditional wedding, in which the groom was a virtual character named Klaus, appearing through the screen of a mobile phone.

The marriage has no legal value, but for Noguchi it represents a real emotional bond. She says the relationship with the artificial partner began as a simple conversation and deepened after a difficult breakup in her real life, offering her emotional support and a sense of stability.

The phenomenon is not isolated. In Japan, an increasing number of people are forming emotional connections with virtual characters, in a society where marriages and birth rates have seen a continuous decline.

Surveys show that for many people, artificial intelligence has become a form of companionship and emotional communication.

Experts warn that such relationships may increase social isolation and emotional dependency, as they do not require the compromises and confrontations that characterize human relationships.

However, some researchers acknowledge that for lonely or vulnerable individuals, virtual partners may provide temporary psychological support.

As technology advances rapidly, cases like this are calling into question traditional concepts of love, marriage, and intimacy, opening a broad debate about the future of human relationships in an increasingly digital world.
