Here is the Starting from September next year, first, sixth, and tenth grade classes will have updated textbooks.
For the Ministry of Education, this is part of the reform aimed at modernizing the pre-university system and comes as a necessary response to current developments.
“To have students who use critical thinking well and to align the curriculum with what is happening and with the labor market. In other words, to have a student who will be capable tomorrow of facing the challenges of the market,” said the Deputy Minister of Education, Orjana Osmani.
But what will change in the school textbooks?
“Textbooks will be changed by 20%. This means there will be changes in topics that may be outdated for the current time, exercises that have caused difficulties, or are too easy for the students’ age. Of course, we aim to make the methodology of these textbooks more practical and less theoretical.”
In addition to the changes, first, sixth, and tenth grade students will have an entirely new civics book. Meanwhile, starting in September, students in the early years of high school across the country will also receive a new Albanian language textbook, as the Ministry of Education considers a focus on the mother tongue essential.
“There will still be lessons on spelling and syntax, but the main focus will be on the correct application of the language, which is what is required today, and Albanian language lessons will be more practical and functional in terms of what students need to learn about their mother tongue,” Osmani told Tv Klan.
In parallel with the textbook changes, teacher training will also be conducted to ensure they are ready to implement the competencies of the new curriculum.
Meanwhile, work on updating all school textbooks will continue until 2029 for all grades in the pre-university system in the country.
