Oil smuggling at the border: smugglers caught

As part of heightened summer-season border security measures aimed at preventing and cracking down on illegal activities, Albanian Border Police have intercepted a fuel smuggling attempt at the Qafë Thanë Border Crossing, at the entrance to the Republic of Albania.

A truck driven by 38-year-old E.Q., a resident of Elbasan, was subjected to detailed inspection. During second-line checks, a significant quantity of fuel was discovered hidden in two concealed tanks within the vehicle.

Following procedural actions, specialists from the Crime Investigation Unit at the Korçë Border and Migration Directorate arrested E.Q. in flagrante delicto. He is charged with “Smuggling of goods subject to excise tax or subject to full or partial suspension of customs or excise duties.”

The smuggled diesel fuel was seized as material evidence.
