Pensions will increase starting in October, with the indexation adding around 500 lekë per month

The indexation of pensions this October is expected to be much lower compared to previous years. They will increase by 2.5%, which is equal to the overall rise in market prices over the past year.

This means that an elderly person who currently receives 25,000 lekë per month will receive 25,600 lekë starting from October.

The decision is expected to be approved this week, and according to general estimates, the average pension in urban areas will increase by around 500 lekë, while in rural areas by around 300 lekë.

Pension indexation is carried out every year and provides the elderly with additional funds to cover expenses resulting from rising food prices in the market.

In October 2023, pensions were indexed by 8.6%, while in 2024, they increased by 4.1%.

It is worth noting that there are 720,000 elderly people in the social security system who receive old-age pensions or other types of pensions.
