POLICE/ A 21-year-old man arrested in Devoll for smuggling illegal immigrants!

A Sudanese national has been arrested in Devoll, as part of a police operation against assistance for illegal border crossing.

21-year-old Franko Nyawella was caught in the act while escorting two compatriots who had entered illegally from Greece.

He is suspected of operating in exchange for payment, helping migrants towards EU countries. Police continue investigations to uncover his collaborators and the entire trafficking network.

Operations continue against the criminal activity of providing assistance to foreign nationals for illegal border crossing. The operation codenamed “Northward” has been finalized; a 21-year-old (Sudanese citizen), who organized and carried out this criminal activity in exchange for payment, has been arrested.

The 21-year-old was caught in the act, in the village of Tresenik, Devoll, while escorting 2 Sudanese nationals who had illegally crossed the border from Greece. The arrested man had been issued a “voluntary departure order” two days earlier, after being caught by Border Police services illegally crossing the border.

Specialists of the Section for Crime Investigation of the Local Directorate for Border and Migration, in cooperation with the services of the Kapshticë Border Police Station, as a result of investigations directed by the Korçë Prosecutor’s Office, finalized the operation codenamed “Northward”. As a result of the operation, the following individual was arrested in the act:

* Franko Nyawella, 21 years old, resident of Sudan, a country in North Africa.

Investigations suggest that this individual, in cooperation with others, assisted migrants from third countries, in exchange for payment, to illegally enter Albania through the land border with Greece, and then to pass into Montenegro, with the final destination being EU countries.

Investigations continue to fully document this criminal activity and to identify and capture other individuals involved.

The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor’s Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction, Korçë, for further action, on the criminal offense of “Assisting illegal border crossing”.
