Several hours before Donald Trump was inaugurated as the President of the United States, Pope Francis criticized his plans to target immigration after his return to the White House.
In an interview with the Italian program “Che Tempo Che Fa,” the Pope was asked about Trump’s plans to carry out mass deportations once he returns to office.
The Pope said that he had not spoken to Trump since his first term, but if it is true that he wants to deport illegal immigrants, “it will be a shame because it would make the poor pay the price of social imbalance.”
“This initiative of Trump is not right. Problems are not solved this way,” the Pope stated.
Trump is set to be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States today in Washington.
According to reports from the United States, he was ready to sign a series of executive orders from day one, with a particular focus on immigration measures.
