Rama breaks his silence: I’m not stepping down; my mission ends when Albania joins the EU

Prime Minister Edi Rama has declared that he will remain in office and that his political mission will end only when Albania achieves its goal of joining the European Union.

The statement was made during a meeting at the Palace of Brigades with the political leaders of the Socialist Party and the heads of parliamentary committees, where Rama also addressed calls from the opposition and his critics for him to step down.

According to the Prime Minister, resigning under pressure from a minority would not be an act of responsibility, but rather the abandonment of a mandate entrusted to him by the majority of citizens.

Rama said he does not want to miss Albania’s “decisive moment” on its path toward Europe and that he will continue his political journey until that objective is achieved.

“If it were not for the EU agenda, I would retire to my village. I would have already stepped down from leading the Socialist Party as well,” Rama said during his speech.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister also presented the new annex to the “Besa” document, which reflects recent political developments and changes.
