Prime Minister Edi Rama announced new measures to improve the financial treatment of the Armed Forces during a statement on the podcast “Flasim.”
Rama stated that with the approval of the 2026 budget, the government has increased defense funding by about 12% compared to the previous year, as part of commitments to NATO and to ensure more dignified treatment for military personnel.
“When we approved the 2026 budget, we decided to give defense about 12% more funds than the previous year… but also to uphold the commitment to increasingly dignified treatment of our Armed Forces,” he said.
According to the Prime Minister, at the end of February, a salary increase for military personnel was established, effective retroactively from January, and in the most recent government meeting, coverage of transport costs for every active service member was also approved.
“This is a long-awaited and welcome step for all those who serve the country on every front under the uniform of our Armed Forces,” Rama said.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the government’s goal is that by the end of the term, military salaries in Albania will be competitive and at the average level of NATO countries.
He added that the concrete objective is for the base soldier’s salary in the Republic of Albania to increase by up to 70%.
“In other words, by the end of this term… the base salary of a soldier in the Republic of Albania will increase by up to 70%,” Rama concluded.
