Prime Minister Edi Rama stated in a video message on social media that, starting from January of this year, pensions will increase every month beyond the annual indexation.
Rama announced that the government approved the 2026 draft budget the previous night, emphasizing that this mandate will focus on raising pensions, aiming to bring the full pension to 400,000 old lek by the end of the term.
“This is the most challenging part of financial policy for a state, but now that we are a country with a stable economy growing every year, we will fulfill our promise to increase pensions year by year. From January, our pensioners will see monthly increases above the annual indexation.
By the end of the mandate, the average urban pension will rise to 40,000 lek from 27,000 lek currently; the partial urban pension to 22,000 lek from 15,000 lek; the rural pension to 18,000 lek from 11,500 lek; and the family pension to 18,000 lek from 11,000 lek. Starting January 2026, the full urban pension will increase by 1,800 lek, the partial urban pension by 800 lek, and the rural pension by 1,000 lek. In the following years, these amounts will double in 2027, triple in 2028, and so on to reach the promised value. This is me, this is us,” Rama said.
