Rumors of a government position under Rama, Grida Duma responds: “If I enter politics, I’ll do it through my own door”

For days, Grida Duma’s name has become one of the most widely discussed topics on Albania’s political and media scene, following reports that the former opposition MP could join Edi Rama’s government, potentially in a senior position.

In recent days, various scenarios have been circulating, with some even speculating about the position she could take, who might be backing her, or an alleged political “deal.” Faced with these claims, Duma has now responded publicly, ending her silence.

“Sleep peacefully,” was her message to those who have included her in scenarios about changes to the government. Duma stressed that she has no intention of taking anyone’s position and that, if she ever decides to return to politics, it will be entirely her own decision.

“If one day I make my own decision to enter politics, I will enter through my own door. I will not knock on anyone else’s door to enter politics, nor am I waiting for these invitations or calls,” she said.

Duma also mocked the way the story has been handled, saying that for days she has been “assigned a deal,” “found a sponsor,” and even had a political position picked out for her.

She made it clear that she does not view a return to politics as a matter of securing a position or receiving an offer from others. According to her, if she does return, it will only happen if she believes she has something to offer Albania.

“My decision to enter politics will be because I have something to ask of Albania, because I have something to offer Albania at that moment,” Duma said.

The former MP also expressed concern that political debate is focused on positions and names, while, in her view, citizens are facing much more serious problems.

“While they are concerned about their own positions and the seat they hold, Albanians have a major concern,” she said, adding that change cannot come from a single individual alone.

In conclusion, Duma emphasized that Albania needs more than one person’s name to change the political situation and that citizens’ expectations require much broader engagement.
