Sadness in Korçë / Two elderly people die alone, asylum requests exceed capacities

In the city of Korçë, two elderly individuals were found dead in their homes, highlighting a sad phenomenon of loneliness and neglect among senior citizens. Many elderly people, often with their children living abroad, face serious challenges, including lack of healthcare and basic living needs.

In response to this situation, there is high demand for asylum, but current capacities are limited. A residential center in Korçë can accommodate only 31 people, while the waiting list remains long.

Social workers report that some applicants passed away before they could benefit from the service.

This reality underscores the urgent need for new policies and strategies to provide support and dignity for the elderly, including the creation of more residential centers and social services that guarantee proper care during their final years.
