Kastriot Cenko, the 42-year-old accused of murdering his wife, Alba Cenko, in Ampelokipi in November 2024, apologized before the Mixed Jury Court, claiming he lost control after ongoing family disputes.

During his testimony, he spoke about the problems that, according to him, had existed for years in his relationship with his wife, while alleging that she had an extramarital affair with one of his childhood friends. “I loved her very much. I didn’t want to believe what was happening,” he told the court.

According to Kastriot Cenko, the situation spiraled out of control when Alba Cenko told him she would leave the house and take the children with her, while also allegedly claiming that the youngest child was not his. “At that moment, I went mad. My whole life was my children,” he declared, admitting that he struck her with a hammer.

He claimed that afterward he tried to provide first aid, but without success. According to his testimony, he then wrapped the body and initially hid it in a closet in the apartment before later moving it to the attic. The following day, he took the children to school and went to work, telling colleagues that his wife had left home.

During the trial, the presiding judge raised doubts about the defendant’s claims, emphasizing that the body had been wrapped in many layers of bags, which, according to her, contradicted his statement that he had not intended to conceal the crime.

Kastriot Cenko denied planning to disappear or hide the incident. “If I wanted to disappear, I could have done it. I never thought about hiding,” he said, adding that he had tried to protect the children from seeing the body inside the house.

According to the investigation file, he was the person who notified the authorities, confessed to the crime, and showed investigators where he had hidden the body and the hammer used in the killing. The trial regarding the case is still ongoing.
