Former Speaker of Parliament Elisa Spiropali has reacted after statements made by Prime Minister Edi Rama during a meeting of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, where he mocked internal voices within the party talking about a “New Albania.”
In his speech, Rama said that there are “some lost souls” inside the party who are calling for a new Albania, adding sarcastically that he is waiting for them to present a concrete draft, but he doubts it will ever come.
A day later, Spiropali appears to have responded directly to the Prime Minister through a post on social media, where she reaffirms the idea of a “New Agreement for Albania” and the need for reform within the Socialist Party.
“Yes, we will have the New Agreement for Albania. The Albania we want to build must be made, and we will make it more open, more fair, more meritocratic, more European,” Spiropali writes.
She emphasizes that to achieve this goal, the Socialist Party must find the strength to “clean itself up” and become more dynamic and democratic.
“The Socialist Party needs to gather its thoughts, clean itself up, become more dynamic, more democratic, more compact, in order to remain always new, always clean, without resentment, without rust, without tricks,” she states.
In conclusion, Spiropali underlines that change in the country begins with changing oneself and the ruling political force.
