Oh, how sorry I would feel for them!

But, in the end, they do not deserve pity.

A significant number of voters in the Municipality of Maliq, both from the left and the right, for some money, promises, or short-term interests, chose in the 2025 parliamentary elections to vote for PS and PD candidates from the city of Korçë, leaving aside the candidates who represented Maliq itself, regardless of their political beliefs.

For the first time in 35 years of pluralism, Maliq was left without a single member of parliament. An unprecedented development for an area that in most legislatures had not only one, but even two representatives, including influential figures from both the Democratic Party and the Socialist Party.

Today, the same people are taking part in protests, speaking out, and calling on Korçë’s MPs not to vote for the territorial reform affecting Maliq. A major paradox.

It is difficult to ask for solidarity from those you chose yourselves, while leaving the representatives of your own area without support. In the end, every choice has its consequences.

Next time, Democratic Party voters in the Municipality of Maliq should think more carefully about their vote. Do not blindly follow the instructions of party leaders who ask you to vote for candidates from outside the area, because when the time comes to defend Maliq’s interests, they are no longer there.

Today, even those who once guided you are not standing by your side. Meanwhile, Maliq itself is facing the consequences of those choices.
