At the weekly opposition platform held in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, Erisilda Hoxha from Kuçova denounced the deep problems that have gripped her community. A teacher and translator by profession, she went up to the podium to describe the bitter reality of her city, starting from extreme poverty and ending with the threats she says she has received due to her activism with the Democratic Party (PD).
Addressing the Prime Minister directly, she stated that she does not recognize him as such. “For me he is not our prime minister, because to be a prime minister you must be properly elected and you must face the citizens, not just half of your own structures in meetings,” she said, adding that she has been publicly threatened after announcing her participation in the protest. “I have been publicly threatened and my family has been mentioned. But since I have taken on this resistance, I will go all the way,” she stated firmly. The teacher listed a number of problems affecting Kuçova.
“Rama is not our prime minister, because to be a prime minister you must be properly elected. To be a prime minister you must at least face the citizens.
I had prepared my speech today, but I changed it 100 times on the way because of messages that kept coming from citizens of Kuçova who wanted their problems to be presented today. And believe me, the problems in such a small area as Kuçova are so big and poverty is so widespread that there is not enough TV airtime to make them all public.
In Kuçova, unfortunately, there is no work, and for this reason citizens in 2023 chose the united opposition as an alternative.
De facto, we have managed in 30 years to break that former left-wing stronghold. And de facto, despite malicious “Rilindja” formulas to steal seats, we today morally hold Kuçova in three winning units and in three neighborhoods out of five. In addition, I wanted to talk about the biggest problem found everywhere in Albania, which is urban waste.
So much money spent. In Kuçova, we have a landfill, which I don’t know which engineering expert thought should be built on the river banks and not further away. And just three months later, the river took the landfill and dumped it into the sea along with the waste. And it is only 300 meters from residential areas. I don’t know if there is any world environmental organization that would accept this landfill we have in Kuçova, which causes entire lands and fertile soils to flood.
I am very grateful that there are still resistors here.
Today, when I announced that I would come here to say this simple citizen’s speech from Kuçova, I have been publicly threatened and my family has been mentioned, and I respond today.
Since I have taken on this resistance, I will go all the way, and in the upcoming elections in 2027, with an extraordinary cooperation with the Democratic Party that we have in Kuçova, thanking those amazing boys and girls there, we will manage to bring victory.”
