The criteria for the average grade for university admission are changing

The Council of Ministers today approved amendments to the decision defining the criterion of the average grade for the admission of candidates to first-cycle study programs and integrated second-cycle programs in higher education institutions.

According to the decision, candidates applying to first-cycle study programs and integrated second-cycle programs must have completed upper secondary education with a minimum average grade of 6.5.

For study programs in the field of teaching, higher admission criteria are set. Specifically, a minimum average grade of 7.0 is required for first-cycle programs in the field of foreign language teaching.

Meanwhile, a minimum average grade of 7.5 will be required for admission to first-cycle study programs that provide access to master’s programs in the field of teaching, as well as for the study program that trains preschool teachers, which does not provide access to master’s programs for primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary education.

The decision also introduces technical amendments to the existing provisions and replaces the relevant annexes with a new one, which defines the study programs to which the special average grade criteria apply.

The implementation of this decision is assigned to the Ministry of Education, the institution responsible for providing educational services, upper secondary education institutions, local educational authorities responsible for pre-university education, and higher education institutions.
