A former teacher in the United Kingdom, Rebecca Joynes, is facing a lifetime ban from the profession after a professional conduct panel found her guilty of serious ethical violations involving underage students.
Joynes, 31, is currently serving a six-and-a-half-year prison sentence handed down in July after being convicted on multiple charges related to inappropriate relationships with students. The incidents involved two 15-year-old boys whom she had met while working at a school in Greater Manchester.
According to evidence presented at a hearing by the Teaching Regulation Agency, which was held in her absence, her conduct caused significant harm to the young people involved.
During the review, it was noted that the relationships developed gradually and outside professional boundaries, with authorities concluding that it constituted a serious breach of trust inherent in the teaching profession.
TRA representative Shirley Duckworth described the case as a grave violation of professional standards, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding students and upholding ethical conduct in education.
Joynes denied the charges during the trial, but her claims were rejected by the jury. Authorities are now expected to issue a final decision regarding her permanent prohibition from teaching.
