Members of a gang of Albanian and Greek “skifters” managed to steal approximately one million euros in goods and cash, operating mainly in the areas of Filothei and Psychiko in Greece.

Officers of the Department for the Investigation and Prosecution of Crimes announced today the dismantling of the gang led by a 39-year-old Albanian man (main photo), whose name was not disclosed, while releasing photos and video footage from the burglaries that led to the identification of the perpetrators.

The group is accused of carrying out a series of burglaries in at least 16 homes, mainly holiday residences and properties belonging to tourists.

More specifically, the arrested 39-year-old Albanian, sometimes acting alone and at other times with an accomplice, used forested areas in Filothei and Psychiko as bases, hiding there both before and after committing the thefts.

After identifying their target houses, with the main criterion being proximity to forested areas, and taking all necessary precautions by wearing gloves, caps, and masks, the perpetrators gained access by first breaking balcony doors or windows using a crowbar, removing surveillance cameras, and disabling alarm systems.

“In cases where they wanted to enter higher floors, they used a ladder, which they brought with them during each of their criminal actions. An indication of the boldness of their actions is the fact that the perpetrators entered homes even while the alarm system was sounding,” writes Protothema.

It is also worth noting that, in order to maximize their loot, they committed multiple burglaries on the same night, while in three cases they returned within a few days to the same houses to remove additional items.

The 39-year-old was spotted on Christmas morning by patrol officers of the Nea Filadelfia – Nea Chalkidona Police Department while driving a vehicle in the Nea Filadelfia area.

Police signaled him to stop for a check, but he did not comply and accelerated. However, he was eventually stopped after a pursuit and arrested.
