The Tirana MP, Erion Braçe, continues to publicly denounce the rise in fruit and vegetable prices in the capital, extending beyond Unit 5, where he received most of the votes in the 2025 elections.
This time, Braçe monitored the sale of fruits and vegetables in Units 2 and 3 of Tirana. The socialist deputy says that “prices have gone crazy,” mentioning tomatoes being sold at 350 lek/kg and peppers at 450 lek/kg.
Erion Braçe’s full statement:
“From Unit 5 to Units 2 and 3 this morning; I thought it was expensive only in Unit 5, but I found it expensive in Unit 2 – Ballet School, and Unit 3 – Bryli! The same products, the same prices! Vegetables have gone crazy, and this is a serious problem!
Tomatoes continue at 300-350 lek/kg; they are imported – mostly Greek and Turkish; local tomatoes are also out – mostly pink, still unripe, harvested quickly by farmers to catch the high price. Red peppers are 450 lek/kg and are local, but very scarce.
Look; these are not fuel-driven prices. An increase of 50 lek/liter in fuel does not have this impact on the price of tomatoes and peppers at all; the effect is much smaller than 100 lek per kilogram of a product! It is the price of imports that sets the trend, alongside local production; meanwhile, local production is still insufficient! So we have a major structural production problem, heavily affected by floods in the main producing areas and unsuitable climate; that’s why I was shouting for compensation for the damages!
But those who don’t listen, this is the consequence!”
