Today, we remember with honor and gratitude the physical education teacher and tireless sportsman, Ilia Jorgji.


Born on June 22, 1934, in Korçë, Ilia Jorgji dedicated his entire life to education and sport.


After graduating from the Physical Education Technical School in Tirana, he began his career as a physical education teacher at the “Raqi Qirinxhi” high school in Korçë, where he worked with remarkable dedication and passion.


Throughout his career, he contributed not only as a teacher, but also as an organizer, coach, and sports leader. He helped build sports facilities in several schools, served as an athletics and gymnastics inspector, and worked as coach of the ski teams of Skënderbeu, leading them to several national championship titles. He was also among the key contributors to the expansion of Korça’s stadium and played an important role in developing sports infrastructure and skiing in the region.


Beyond sports, Ilia Jorgji was also passionate about photography and documenting the sporting history of Korçë. He organized photography exhibitions, published the sports calendar “Korça sportive në vite,” and carefully preserved the memory of Korça’s sporting heritage.


His work and contributions were recognized with important honors and distinctions, including the Naim Frashëri Medal, the Naim Frashëri Order (Third Class), the “Distinguished Teacher” badge, and the title “Merited Teacher.”


Ilia’s memory remains alive in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him and learning from him.
