British singer Lauren Bennett, known worldwide as one of the voices behind LMFAO’s hit “Party Rock Anthem,” has died at the age of 37. The news was confirmed on Monday by the pop group G.R.L., of which Bennett had been a member since 2014.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Lauren’s passing. Our hearts are broken, and we cannot express in words how much she meant to us,” the group said in a statement posted on social media. The cause of death has not been disclosed, and the singer’s representatives have not yet commented.
Lauren Bennett rose to international fame in 2011 with “Party Rock Anthem,” LMFAO’s song that spent six weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and is considered one of the most successful songs of all time.
She also appeared in the song’s music video, which has more than 2.5 billion views on YouTube. In 2014, she joined the group G.R.L., created as a new project by producer Robin Antin, the founder of The Pussycat Dolls. With the group, she released songs such as “Ugly Heart” and took part in the collaboration with Pitbull on “Wild Wild Love.”
G.R.L. disbanded in 2015 following the death of member Simone Battle. In addition to her career with music groups, Bennett also contributed to the soundtracks of the films “Date Night” and “21 Jump Street.”
