West Nile Fever case in Albania, IPH: It is not transmitted from person to person! Here’s how the elderly man became infected

Epidemiologist Adela Vasili from the Institute of Public Health has provided the latest details regarding the case of West Nile virus infection.

“We have no other confirmed or suspected cases of West Nile fever. West Nile fever is a disease transmitted by mosquitoes carrying the virus, which acquire it from infected birds or horses,” she said.

The first case of West Nile fever in Albania has been confirmed. The patient is a 72-year-old man from Korçë, who is currently isolated in quarantine at the Korçë Regional Hospital, where he is receiving the appropriate treatment. After experiencing health problems, he went to the hospital, where tests confirmed the presence of the virus.

So far, this remains the only identified case, as tests conducted on people who had been in close contact with him have come back negative.
