34 kg of drugs seized in Kapshtica; a Greek national arrested for international trafficking

Korçë County / Police operation “Gorica” successfully concluded.

The operation was carried out through the cooperation of the Korçë Local Police Directorate and the Border Police, under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office, targeting illegal activity in the field of drug trafficking.

37 packages of cannabis sativa, with a total weight of approximately 34 kilograms, were seized, and 2 Greek nationals were arrested.

As part of ongoing efforts to prevent and combat criminal activity related to drug trafficking, the Korçë Local Police Directorate, in cooperation with the Korçë Border Police, under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office, finalized the operation “Gorica.” The following Greek nationals were arrested in flagrante:

A. M., 34 years old, both residents of Greece

Based on operational information that a vehicle with Greek license plates would be transporting drugs to North Macedonia, with a final destination in Greece, police organized units to locate and track the suspected vehicle.

The vehicle, driven by the 48-year-old and with passenger A. M., approached the Goricë Border Crossing. During border control procedures and based on a risk analysis, the vehicle was directed to the secondary inspection line. Suspicions prompted a detailed scan, which revealed 37 packages of suspected cannabis sativa hidden in a specially constructed compartment in the lower part of the vehicle, with a total weight of around 34 kilograms.

Following initial investigative actions, the two Greek nationals were arrested in flagrante for the criminal offense of “Drug Trafficking,” committed in collaboration.

As material evidence, approximately 34 kg of suspected cannabis sativa, the vehicle, two mobile phones, and a sum of cash in euros were seized.

Investigations continue to identify other individuals suspected of involvement in this criminal activity.

All procedural materials have been referred to the Korçë Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
