A 48-year-old man has been arrested by the State Police in Pogradec after being caught in the act of stealing public lighting cables.
According to police sources, the suspect, identified as **Arjan Tare, originally from Podgoria in Maliq and currently residing in Vërdovë, Pogradec, was apprehended last night in the city’s ring road area while attempting yet another theft of electric cables from lighting poles.
During a search of his home, police officers found a significant quantity of cables suspected to have been stolen. Preliminary investigations suggest that a large portion of them had already been sold by the suspect.
Authorities believe that Tare may be involved in dozens of similar thefts in the city and surrounding villages. The most serious case reported is the theft of around 1,000 meters of cable along the Pogradec–Qafë Plloçë national road, a stretch that has remained completely dark for some time, causing safety concerns for both drivers and residents.
The investigative team is working to fully clarify the circumstances of the incidents, and police have not ruled out the possibility that the 48-year-old had accomplices. His testimony is expected to provide further information valuable to the ongoing investigation.
The case files have been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office for further legal proceedings, with charges related to theft of public infrastructure and property damage.
