An Albanian citizen has been caught by Croatian authorities with over 700 thousand undeclared euros, in one of the largest cash seizures at Croatia’s borders.

According to a statement from Croatian Customs, customs officers, in cooperation with the police at the Karasović border crossing, prevented an attempted smuggling operation during an exit check from Croatia.

During a detailed inspection of a vehicle driven by the Albanian national, authorities found €702,435 in cash hidden inside the vehicle.

According to Croatian Customs, the driver had failed to meet the legal obligation to declare the amount to the Customs Administration or the Border Police, either in writing or electronically. He had concealed the money in the vehicle.

The cash was seized, while the Albanian citizen was arrested on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of smuggling and was placed in custody.
