By September of this year, Albania had imported 7,027 tons of coffee — the highest amount recorded for this period in the past five years. Official data from the Ministry of Finance show a noticeable increase in consumption, linked both to the presence of tourists and to the daily habits of Albanians, who drink on average 2 to 3 cups of coffee per day.

Each year, Albania imports around 8,500 tons of coffee on average, with quantities varying depending on production in the countries of origin and domestic demand. In September alone, 870 tons of coffee passed through Albanian customs.

However, despite the growing market, per capita consumption remains among the lowest in the region. According to statistics, an Albanian citizen consumes an average of 3.1 kilograms of coffee per year. By comparison, Serbs lead the region with 5.4 kg per capita, followed by Bosnians with 4.3 kg.

Globally, Scandinavian countries are leaders in coffee consumption. Finland ranks first with 9.1 kg per capita per year, followed by Norway with 7.2 kg. Meanwhile, in Asian countries, coffee consumption is much lower due to the strong tradition of tea drinking, which often replaces coffee in daily culture.
