New details have emerged regarding the tragedy that occurred in Romania on January 27, when a vehicle carrying PAOK fans collided with a truck, resulting in seven deaths and three injuries.
According to the Romanian media outlet “digi24.ro,” authorities discovered narcotics in the vehicle, opening a new line of investigation into the behavior of the passengers and the driver prior to the fatal crash.
Investigators are now examining whether any of the passengers had consumed substances before the accident, or if the driver had also done so.
Footage from the moment of the accident shows the vehicle completely crossing into the opposite lane and colliding with the truck.
Authorities are trying to accurately track the driver’s movements while simultaneously examining possible human errors or technical failures that may have contributed to the tragedy.
Sources from “digi24” report that medical tests confirmed the driver was positive for prohibited substances, while the van reportedly contained energy drinks, alcohol, and drugs.
“In the minibus where seven people died, it is suspected that prohibited substances, stimulants, and alcohol were found. Additionally, during hearings, the passenger in the front right seat stated that the driver had also smoked some cannabis cigarettes before the accident. According to our information, the 29-year-old driver of the minibus also tested positive for prohibited substances following analyses at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine,” the article states.
