Prime Minister Edi Rama has warned construction companies currently building residential blocks that the installation of air conditioners on exterior façades will not be tolerated and will be removed entirely.
Speaking at a press conference from the Prime Minister’s Office alongside ministers Albana Koçiu and Besfort Lamallari, Rama stated that such additions are not part of the approved architectural plans and violate urban planning standards.
According to him, this decision will not affect buildings that have already been registered in the property registry, but it will apply to all constructions still in progress.
“A building covered in ‘fireflies’ that’s what I call air conditioners on façades is not in compliance with the construction permits. We will remove them from all buildings still under construction,” Rama declared.
During his speech, the Prime Minister also mentioned an absurd case in which a developer had sold an apartment to a woman claiming it had a balcony, but in reality had not built one at all leaving a door that opened straight into thin air.
