The chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, commented today on the political situation ahead of the partial local elections expected to be held in several municipalities across the country. Before entering the parliamentary session, Berisha stated that the party is discussing the possibility of boycotting these elections, and even the general elections, as a form of pressure on the government.
“We may boycott the elections, even the general elections,” Berisha declared, describing the boycott as a strong opposition tool, but at the same time an easier solution under the current circumstances. He emphasized that the final decision has not yet been made, leaving open all scenarios for the Democratic Party’s future actions.
During his statement, Berisha stressed that, in his view, under the current government, there are no guarantees for free and fair elections. He accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of creating a climate that, according to him, hinders the democratic process and election standards.
