The Border Police has intensified controls to prevent and combat illegal activities at the border.

Eight individuals were arrested, detained, or referred for prosecution (of which 2 were wanted persons, 1 was arrested for goods smuggling, and 5 others were referred for prosecution in a free state for various criminal offenses).

During in-depth checks and interviews at the entry points to the Republic of Albania, at the Kapshticë Border Crossing Point (BCP), the following wanted individuals were detained:

E. R., 26, resident of Elbasan, sentenced by the Court of First Instance of Elbasan to 9 months in prison, with 2 months and 11 days remaining, for the criminal offense of “Failure to Report a Crime.”

E. E., 33, resident of Pogradec, subject to a detention order by the Court of First Instance of Korçë for the criminal offense of “Production and Sale of Narcotics.”

The Korçë Local Directorate for Border and Migration, following detailed checks based on risk analysis of individuals and the vehicles they use, intercepted two cases of goods smuggling:

Citizen A. M., 46, resident of Shënkoll, Lezhë, was caught in the act at the Kapshticë BCP. After registering in the TIMS system, he left without completing customs procedures with 1,506 kg of honey, suspected to be smuggled, found in his vehicle. The honey was seized as material evidence.

Procedural materials were also referred to the Prosecutor’s Office for the initiation of criminal proceedings for:

I. L., 35, resident of Paskuqan, Tirana, for “Smuggling of other goods.”

E. M., 35, resident of Korçë, customs officer at Kapshticë BCP, for “Abuse of Office.”

Near the Kapshticë BCP, a vehicle driven by I. L. was inspected, revealing a significant quantity of olive oil without proper documentation, suspected to have been smuggled from Greece. The product was seized as material evidence. Investigations suggest that customs officer E. M. abused his duty by failing to inspect the vehicle properly.

Additionally, the Korçë Border and Migration Directorate referred materials to the Prosecutor’s Office for criminal proceedings against individuals for the offense of “Illegal crossing of the state border”:

F. Xh., 46, resident of Zvezdë, Maliq;

V. R., 46, resident of Pogradec;

B. Xh., 55, resident of Sohodoll, Peshkopi;

These individuals are suspected of crossing the border from Greece into Albania illegally.

All procedural materials have been referred to the Korçë Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
