Christmas Lent begins today

For Orthodox Christian believers, November 15 marks the beginning of the preparation period for the great and highly significant celebration of Christmas, known as the start of the Nativity Fast.

This is one of the fasting periods established by the Church as a time of preparation to worthily welcome the major feasts.

The Christmas Fast is a joyful fast because the event it leads to the birth of Christ, celebrated on December 25 brought immense joy (Matthew 2:10).

During this period, as set by the Church, we prepare through fasting and, at the same time, experience the hymns and liturgical traditions of this season, so that we may fully live the great event of God’s coming to earth.
