A life-sentenced prisoner passed away this Monday at the Korçë Regional Hospital after being urgently transported due to a worsening health condition.
The individual, identified as H.Q.R., 64 years old, born and residing in Shkodër, was serving a sentence for the crimes of “intentional homicide related to another crime” and “illegal possession of weapons.”
According to official sources, around 09:40, during a medical check-up at the prison, the doctor observed through an oximeter that the prisoner had low heart rate (bradycardia). Due to his condition, he was immediately taken to the emergency department of the Korçë Regional Hospital for specialized treatment.
During examinations at the hospital, his condition further deteriorated, leading to cardiorespiratory arrest. Despite the doctors’ efforts to revive him, the 64-year-old did not survive.
It is reported that during his imprisonment, he had also shown mental health problems and had been treated by specialist doctors.
Authorities, including the Prosecutor’s Office and the Internal Affairs and Complaints Service, have been notified, and a full investigation is expected to clarify the circumstances of the case.
