Driver crashes police vehicle under the influence of alcohol, 44-year-old remanded in custody

The 44-year-old who crashed a police vehicle in Durrës while trying to avoid arrest has been remanded in custody under the security measure “arrest in prison”.

The incident took place on the evening of May 16 in the Ish-Këneta area, where the 44-year-old, Rezart Abazaj, collided with a police vehicle, endangering the lives of the officers.

The patrol had been alerted by residents about a car moving at high speed and in an uncontrolled manner in neighborhood 17. During the chase, while trying to escape the police, Abazaj reversed his vehicle and hit the officers’ car.

However, the 44-year-old Rezart Abazaj was later stopped by police officers and was found to be under the influence of alcohol, with a level of 1.4 mg per liter. According to the Durrës Police, he is a repeat offender for the same criminal offense.
