Elon Musk, the well-known billionaire and owner of the social media platform X, is currently the most followed person on the platform, ahead of figures like Barack Obama and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Besides his business ventures, Musk is also known for his strong opinions on a range of topics, from remote work to future technologies.
Recently, he has raised a serious concern: according to him, the world is heading toward an electricity crisis due to the growing global energy demand.
Musk links this to two main factors: the massive spread of artificial intelligence and the expansion of electric vehicle usage.
He points out that every AI request consumes significant resources. For example, just 100 words generated by ChatGPT use approximately 519 milliliters of water.
Considering that the system handles around 25 billion requests daily, the energy and environmental costs are enormous.
“The simultaneous rise of electric vehicles and AI is creating an extraordinary demand for energy and electrical infrastructure,” Musk warns.
He has stated that current electrical grids are not prepared for this load.
While most countries are focusing investments on renewable energy to replace fossil fuels, Musk supports the use of nuclear power.
According to him, this is the safest way to ensure a stable, 24/7 energy supply with a much lower carbon footprint.
An example of this approach is Google, which is already developing small nuclear reactors for its data centers.
