The Korça region is experiencing the deep effects of population aging. According to the 2023 census, nearly half of the population is over 60 years old. The main factors contributing to this demographic shift remain declining birth rates and high emigration.
In the city’s public spaces, elderly citizens are the predominant presence. Many say their children live abroad. While financial assistance often comes from their children, for daily needs or health issues, they mostly rely on each other for support.
According to data from Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), out of the 173,000 residents currently living in the Korça region, more than 56,000 are aged over 60./ Oranews
