The German city of Cologne has been engulfed in extraordinary security measures, as around 20,000 residents are being evacuated from the Deutz district following the discovery of three World War II bombs. Two of the munitions weigh 20 tons each, while the third weighs 10 tons. All are equipped with impact fuses, significantly increasing the risk of explosion during deactivation.

According to WDR, the evacuation zone includes large parts of the city center and the old town, encompassing 58 hotels, museums, schools, kindergartens, and government buildings. Authorities began evacuation procedures at 08:00 local time and have warned that individuals who do not comply with orders will be forcibly removed by the police.
