The renowned scholar of Aromanian-Vlach history and culture, Gaqo Çyfeku, has passed away prematurely. He was the visionary and founder of the first media outlet in Pogradec, ARV, which operated for at least 20 years.
With deep sorrow, the news has been received of the untimely and unjust passing of the distinguished scholar of Aromanian-Vlach history and culture, Gaqo Çyfeku.
An irreplaceable figure, always present across Albania, Greece, North Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Germany, and France, Gaqo never spared any effort in offering his valuable contribution to the defense of the Aromanian-Vlach community’s cause in Albania, their millennia-old and indigenous history, language, and culture in the Balkans.
His loss leaves a great void. Today we have lost a rare friend and companion — a romantic, a singer, a peacemaker, and a generous soul. The city of Pogradec has lost a devoted citizen and a respected intellectual. His family has lost their beloved. Mrs. Lume has lost a devoted husband, and his two daughters, Viki and Viki, have lost the father who always took pride in their well-being and future.
Today, the Association of Aromanians of Albania has also lost one of its most distinguished and dedicated members.
There are no words sufficient to express the pain and gratitude for our dear friend, the icon of the community, Gaqo Çyfeku. In this heavy moment, I extend my deepest condolences, in my name and my family’s, to Mrs. Lume and their daughters.
May the memory of the kind-hearted Gaqo Çyfeku live on forever.
