Beware of fraud attempts using the identity of banks
The National Authority for Cyber Security (AKSK) has identified an increase in phishing and smishing campaigns targeting bank customers in Albania.
In these cases, malicious actors use the name, logo, and visual identity of banking institutions to send SMS messages or emails that appear authentic. Through these messages, citizens are urged to act immediately by clicking on fraudulent links or sharing confidential data.
The messages often contain claims about:
unusual activity on the account;
blocking or suspension of the service;
the urgent need to confirm personal data.
Their purpose is to obtain banking credentials and financial information.
NACS recommends:
Do not trust messages that require immediate action or create a sense of urgency.
Never share your PIN, password, OTP code, or card details through SMS messages, emails, or phone calls.
Verify every communication only through your bank’s official channels.
Carefully check the website address (URL) before clicking on a link.
If you suspect that you have provided sensitive data, contact your bank immediately and follow its instructions.
The security of financial data begins with caution toward any suspicious communication.
Before clicking or sharing information, stop and verify.
