Hundreds of Albanian migrants traveling home for vacation were stranded for hours on the route connecting Arta to Ioannina, in a place called Filippiada.
The situation was dangerous, as buses and cars were forced to drive in reverse for more than 1 kilometer on the opposite lane of the highway to avoid putting passengers’ lives at risk from the fire.
It took the intervention of firefighters, who brought the flames under control, to make it possible for the buses carrying passengers to pass safely.
The situation in the area of Achaia, near Patras, remains dramatic.
Several houses have burned, while the route connecting Patras to Pyrgos has been blocked for several hours.
