“Flood” of fines / Drunk drivers arrested and dozens of vehicles impounded within a week

Tirana Traffic Police intensified inspections during the week of May 4–10, issuing more than 14,000 administrative penalties for various violations of the Road Code.
According to official data, the highest number of fines were related to illegal parking, failure to follow safety regulations, and the use of mobile phones while driving.
During the inspections, 45 drivers were penalized for driving under the influence of alcohol. Of these, 11 were arrested, one was prosecuted while free, and 34 cases were handled with administrative measures.
Police also issued 1,251 fines to motorcycle riders for not wearing protective helmets, 401 fines for failing to wear seat belts, and 319 fines for using mobile phones while driving.
Meanwhile, 9,189 penalties were issued for illegal parking and stopping in violation of traffic regulations.
As a result of the inspections, 65 vehicles were seized, including cars towed for illegal parking, vehicles without proper documentation, cars with unpaid fines, and vehicles confiscated as material evidence.
Regarding criminal cases, 34 incidents were handled during the week, including drunk driving, driving without a license, accidents with serious consequences, leaving the scene of an accident, and one case of active corruption involving public officials.
