Goods smuggling in Korçë: 49-year-old arrested, Kapshtica customs officer under investigation

Specialists of the Section for the Investigation of Economic and Financial Crimes, as part of ongoing efforts to prevent, identify, and crack down on criminal activities related to smuggling, and based on operational information, have uncovered a case of goods smuggling.

Police services stopped a vehicle in Neighborhood No. 6, Korçë, driven by citizen V. T. During a search of the vehicle, various items of clothing were found without the required invoices, which are suspected to have been brought into Albanian territory from Greece without completing customs clearance procedures.

Following procedural actions:

Citizen V. T., 49 years old, a resident of Korçë, was arrested in flagrante delicto for the criminal offenses of “Smuggling of other goods,” “Trading and transportation of smuggled goods,” “Keeping or storing smuggled goods,” and “Concealment of income.”

The materials were referred to the Prosecution, and criminal proceedings were initiated for the offense of “Abuse of office” against citizen R. M., 40 years old, a resident of Pogradec, a customs officer at the Kapshtica Border Crossing Point, who is suspected of failing to carry out his duty to inspect the vehicle.

The suspected smuggled goods and the vehicle used to transport them were seized as material evidence.

The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecution at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction of Korçë for further legal actions.
