A major operation carried out this Friday by the Police Oversight Agency has targeted senior officers and police personnel in Sarandë, as part of investigations into abuses related to illegal constructions in the southern coastal areas.
Preliminary sources indicate that the Head of the Sarandë Police Commissariat, Gëzim Bashllari, has been arrested, while the Chief of Crimes in Sarandë has been declared wanted. Alongside them, two police specialists have also been taken into custody, while further arrests are not being ruled out as the operation continues.
The investigation is focused on suspicions that police officers abused their duties by tolerating or facilitating illegal constructions in some of the most sought-after tourist areas in the south, mainly in Sarandë and Ksamil.
The operation was conducted by the Police Oversight Agency in cooperation with investigative structures, following suspicions of inaction regarding illegal buildings along the coastline. According to preliminary information, the officers involved are suspected of having played an active role or allowing construction works to continue in violation of the law.
Inspections and investigative actions have extended across Sarandë, Ksamil, and surrounding areas, while authorities are expected to provide further details regarding the charges and the individuals involved.
This operation comes at a time when the issue of illegal coastal constructions has become one of the most debated concerns, due to its impact on territory management and the urban development of tourist areas.
