A 46-year-old man from Korça has been arrested, while another has been declared wanted, after being caught in the act transporting 16 kg of cannabis with a vehicle. The 46-year-old, Julian Belortaja, is suspected of attempting to transport the drugs toward the Greek border.
Police services found a sports bag in the car’s trunk containing 15 packages wrapped in tape, with a total weight of 16 kg of suspected cannabis sativa, police reported.
“As part of ongoing crackdowns on criminal activity related to the cultivation, production, and trafficking of narcotics, the specialists of the Section for the Investigation of Narcotics and Illegal Trafficking, following several weeks of investigation using proactive methods under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office, finalized the police operation codenamed ‘Cross Border.’
Within this operation, citizen J. B., 46 years old, resident of Korça, was arrested in flagrante delicto, and citizen D. M., 37 years old, also from Korça, the 46-year-old’s accomplice, was declared wanted. During the operation, police stopped a vehicle driven by J. B. in the village of Vishocicë, Devoll.

Investigations so far indicate that J. B., in cooperation with D. M. who remains at large, planned to traffic the narcotic substance into Greece.
Under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office, efforts continue to identify and apprehend other individuals who may be involved in this criminal activity.
The procedural materials have been forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction in Korça for further action.
