Temperatures and drought, meteorologist explains how the month of May begins

In a live connection for Euronews Albania with Alba Xhani, meteorologist Lajda Porja provided the weather forecast for this weekend, emphasizing that it will be one of the coolest weekends.

According to the meteorologist, the weekend will be characterized by relatively high daytime temperatures and mainly cold mornings. She also gave a general outlook for the month of May, noting that rainfall will be very scarce and sunny weather with high temperatures will dominate, with some days reaching up to 30°C.

“This weekend will be one of the coolest we have ahead. Yesterday we had very low temperatures, in the morning some areas recorded 0°C. That is a typical February temperature if we talk about minimum values. Today there has been a slight increase. We are not yet in warm weather in terms of mornings. Today we expect a maximum of up to 24°C, and there will be further increases, with temperatures rising day by day next week.

Sunday will reach 26°C, Monday 27°C, and this trend will continue until May 7, with a gradual increase. After May 7, we will have high temperatures even in the early morning hours. Officially, summer begins on May 7.

After that date, the rise in temperatures will be strongly felt from the early hours of the morning. As for rainfall, May will be mostly dry, with sporadic rain that will not cover the entire territory. On May 8 there will be rain in certain areas, and there is also an episode around May 14–15, but these will last only a few hours.

May will record higher temperatures, even typical June-like values, reaching up to 30°C. We will immediately feel the summer conditions in May. This summer is expected to be hotter compared to last year,” she said.
