A serious incident has been reported in Lushnjë, where a 42-year-old man has been declared wanted by police after being suspected of having committed sexual violence against a 27-year-old woman with mental health issues.

According to the official statement, the 27-year-old woman went to the Lushnjë Police Station accompanied by two family members. In the presence of a psychologist, she reported that on July 22, 2026, a man had engaged in sexual relations with her without her consent.

Immediately after the complaint was filed, police services launched investigative and procedural actions, identifying Saimir Meçani, 42, a resident of Lushnjë, as the suspect. He has been declared wanted for the criminal offense of “sexual or homosexual relations with persons unable to protect themselves.”

Meanwhile, the investigation uncovered another incident linked to the case. Police arrested in flagrante delicto the 27-year-old woman’s brother, Demir Ymeri, 32, who is suspected of setting fire to the vehicle belonging to the mother of the 42-year-old wanted man.

According to police, the vehicle was burned at the time when the 27-year-old woman was giving her statement at the Lushnjë Police Station.

Police announced that intensive efforts are continuing to locate and capture the 42-year-old man, as well as to fully document the circumstances of the incident. Procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Fier, which will continue with further investigative actions.
