Violand Braçellari, who executed police officer Enea Mekolli in Lozhan, Maliq, has left the Military Hospital, having fully moved out of life-threatening danger and having been hospitalized for several days at the prison hospital near QSUT in Tirana.
His health condition is no longer critical, and he is now receiving treatment at the prison hospital. After this treatment, he is expected to be transferred and isolated either in the high-security prison of Drenova or Peqin, reports journalist Elton Qyno.
Violand Braçellari, the 43-year-old from Lozhan who killed Korçë police officer Enea Mekolli with an automatic weapon and injured his colleague Edison Adri, is reported to have used armor-piercing bullets.
The suspect used heavy weapons and ammunition, quickly neutralizing the two police officers, with Enea Mekolli sustaining five gunshot wounds—three to the body, one to the head, and one to the leg.
The three shots to the body reportedly pierced his bulletproof vest. During the seizure of the automatic weapon, it was confirmed that the ammunition used by Violand Braçellari was armor-piercing.
Violand Braçellari was known in the area as a highly dangerous individual, as he had reportedly escaped arrest by the police several times. Wherever he went to his farm, he allegedly carried a firearm with him, prompting an immediate response.
Currently, the Korçë Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation against Violand Braçellari on charges of “Murder due to special qualities” against a police officer and “Attempted murder due to special qualities” against a police officer, as well as “Illegal possession of firearms and ammunition” and “Armed resistance against State Police officers.”
For all these charges, Braçellari faces the possibility of a life sentence.
Meanwhile, it is expected that an investigation has also been opened for “Abuse of office” to verify the role of the leadership and operational chain of the Korçë police during the operation.
Several police officers are expected to be questioned, including the Director of Korçë, Vilson Bala, and the Deputy Director of Korçë Police, Eduart Allushi, to determine whether they had operational information that Braçellari was a dangerous individual.
Violand Braçellari had reportedly stated in the village of Lozhan that if the police came for him, he would shoot at them, which indicates that he was considered highly dangerous.
