One of Korça’s masters of clay craftsmanship, Vasillaq Kolevica, has chosen a unique way to express his indignation toward the behavior of Albanian citizens regarding politics, through his latest work titled “Spermatozoons.”

The artist explains that the installation symbolizes citizens who “go out of use” and cast their vote without reflecting, considering this act a mirror of today’s Albanian society. “It’s an installation, ‘The Spermatozoons,’ but they are unfertilized, numbed. I see these people, with no brains in their heads, treating elections like a football match,” Kolevica says.

The 66-year-old, who has spent his life shaping clay and turning it into art, says that this time he created more than just one or two pieces, aiming to reflect the majority of Albanian society as unfulfilled and wasted. He also highlights the difficulties of funding art, stressing that artists often receive no support to present their work.

Vasillaq Kolevica is known as one of Albania’s finest clay artisans and has won both national and international awards for his creations. The installation “Spermatozoons” aims to draw public attention and spark reflection on society’s relationship with politics.
