MAJOR SCANDAL in the Superliga over betting/ 27 footballers, 2 club presidents, and several coaches, including managers, have been arrested

A major scandal has “erupted” in Turkey. Many footballers, club presidents, commentators, and managers have been involved as part of an investigation by the Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The office issued a statement reporting that 27 footballers, one club president, a well-known football commentator in Turkey, and several managers have been arrested. The operation took place in the early hours of the morning, with reports indicating that they had manipulated several matches across different competitions in which they participated.

It is notable that among those arrested are the former president of Adana Demirspor, Murat Sancak, football commentator Ahmet Çakar, and among the 27 footballers arrested are players from Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray.

“Within the scope of the second part of the series of investigations conducted by our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, publicly known as ‘Football Betting Investigations,’ based on data obtained from the Presidency of MASAK, legal betting websites, research studies, open-source analyses, and other evidence regarding 101 football players previously sanctioned by the Professional Football Disciplinary Board, a total of 27 footballers were identified as involved in betting.

This includes professional footballer Metehan Baltacı of Galatasaray Sports Club, who was found to have placed bets on his own team, and Mert Hakan Yandaş of Fenerbahçe Sports Club, who was discovered to have placed bets through a third party.

Five individuals, including the owner of Ankaraspor, Ahmet Okatan, the president of Ankaraspor, Mehmet Emin Katipoğlu, the president of Nazilli Belediyespor, Şahin Kaya, and two of their coaches, were found to have influenced the outcome of the Ankaraspor-Nazilli Belediyespor match played on 28/244/28/2024.

A total of six people, including one footballer, were arrested for involvement in an agreement to influence the result of the Ümraniyespor-Giresunspor match played on 24/12/2023.

Seven individuals, including the former president of Adana Demirspor, Murat Sancak, former football referee and current sports commentator Ahmet Çakar and his wife, as well as top-tier referee Zorbay Küçük, whose bank accounts were found to contain suspicious financial transactions, were also arrested,” the statement said.
