Municipal Council votes to dismiss Erion Veliaj / Who are the two councilors who refused to vote

The Tirana Municipal Council today voted in favor of dismissing Erion Veliaj from the position of mayor. It now falls to the Council of Ministers to approve the decision to remove Erion Veliaj from the post of Mayor of Tirana.

The meeting was opened by the Chairwoman of the Municipal Council, Megi Fino, who stated that the decision to dismiss Veliaj was driven by Tirana’s urgent need to have leadership at the helm.

The order to dismiss Veliaj was initially issued by Prime Minister Edi Rama during the Socialist Party Assembly, where he announced Ogerta Manastirliu as the candidate to lead the municipality.

Only two councilors of the Tirana Municipality broke ranks.

Alfred Muharremi and Fabian Topollari did not participate in the vote.
